Looking for easy, HEALTHY and creative ways to use STRAWBERRIES? May marks National Strawberry Month, so I partnered with Foxy Produce to show you how to use strawberries with 3 creative, nutritious ways to say YES! to adding berries to your plate more often!
Strawberries are loved by all ages for their bright red color, their juicy texture, and especially for their sweet, strawberry flavor. Strawberries are full of healthy nutrition, too! Strawberries are packed with vitamin C, fiber, potassium, folate, and special phytonutrients called anthocyanins and flavonols. And did you know? Research demonstrates that those who consume the highest levels of anythocyanins have a reduced risk of high blood pressure - so eat your berries to support the health of your hearts and bodies!
So how can you eat strawberries more often? Here are my favorite quick strawberry recipes and healthy strawberry ideas.
How To Use Strawberries More Often
Tip #1: Add Strawberries To Your Morning Oatmeal Oatmeal.
Add strawberries to your morning oatmeal to give your oatmeal extra color, flavor and nutrition. I like making my morning oatmeal with 1/2 cup oats cooked in water or unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds, a shake of cinnamon, and strawberries. I like adding my strawberries fresh, but other times I'll add them frozen. I find that when the frozen berries hit the warm oats, their juices melt slightly into the oats making each bite full of sweet strawberry flavor.
Tip #2: Add Strawberries On Top of Your Salad.
Strawberries on top of your salad delivers sweetness, naturally! Whether I make a side salad, an entree sized salad, or a salad to share with family, I know that adding strawberries is a huge flavor win! I like making Strawberry Salads with mixed greens, chickpeas, red onions, goat cheese, walnuts and, of course, strawberries! I find that balsamic vinaigrettes pair well as a dressing on salads with fruit, as can Poppyseed or a simple oil/vinegar combo. Yum!
Tip #3: Add Strawberries On Fruit Skewers.
Add strawberries on fruit skewers - for kids and kids at heart! I make my fruit skewers with strawberries, pineapple, grapes, and cantaloupe. Using fruit skewers with a variety of fruits means that you and yours get a variety of colors - and when thinking about getting good nutrition, we know that getting a variety of real food colors matters! Healthy fruit skewers can also be added to the grill in the summertime for a healthy snack or side dish. Grilling fruit brings out the fruit's natural sweetness.
