Beyond Pumpkin: 5 Trendy Flavors You Need To Try This Fall

Are all things pumpkin spice on your brain?  Lattes, crackers, soups, and even pasta sauce all feature pumpkin as one of fall's most coveted flavors – and it seems that there isn’t a pumpkin product that consumers aren’t willing to try. (1)

But why limit fall flavors to only pumpkin?  There are so many more delicious fall flavor trends you should try:

CINNAMON ROLL

Mmmm…cinnamon roll. There may be nothing quite like smelling them in the airport in the fall or brunching on one on a crisp, fall morning.  But wait just one second – one classic Cinnabon roll packs in over FIFTY EIGHT grams of sugar.  That’s over a quarter of a cup!  Ouch.  Good news, though.  You can enjoy the cinnamon roll aroma with Wildway’s Cinnamon Roll grain-free instant hot cereal. It’s made with good, healthy fats (walnuts, ground flax, cashews, pecans), tasty flavors like cinnamon and vanilla bean, and is sweetened with just 4 grams of sugar from dates.

APPLE & GINGER

Apples, full of their glorious fiber, vitamin C, and quercetin (an important antioxidant), often go from the orchard into dessert combinations like pies, crisps, and cakes, which may make your waistline a little less than happy come winter. Get apples and ginger (another fall fave) in 88 Acres Apple & Ginger Seed Bars. Not only are these bars A) delicious and B) nutritious, but C) the company aims for zero waste.  Since the bars are made in small batches, the “waste” created from making the bars (the extras from cutting the mixture into the "bar" shape they need) is baked again and made into granola! Oh and D) it’s a convenient choice to throw into your purse, spread with nut butter, and enjoy as an on-the-go eating occasion.

MAPLE

I love turning to hemp seeds for a quality, plant-based source of protein and healthy fatty acids. Now, I can do it with added real flavor – especially in the fall! The Maple & Cinnamon Hemp Heart Toppers from Manitoba Harvest are a delicious addition overtop yogurt, oatmeal, or fruit. Just one serving (4 tablespoons) offers 10 grams of plant-based protein, 3 grams of fiber, and 10 grams of omega 3s & 6s per serving.

SNICKERDOODLE

With just five simple ingredients, and a healthy blend of carbohydrates (24 grams), protein (20 grams) and healthy fat (15 grams), Rise Bar’s Snickerdoodle Protein Bars serve as a yummy way to get that snickerdoodle flavor you crave.  The bars are made with no artificial sweeteners, no sugar alcohols, and no preservatives and offer enough nutrition to serve as a meal replacement bar to power you through busy mornings or after an intense workout.

PUMPKIN SPICE

Of course you can have your pumpkin, and love it too!  Still trendy, enjoy foods that feature whole or pureed pumpkin or pumpkin spice (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves) – not artificially flavored pumpkin or sugar sweetened products with just a little bit of spice.  Have fun with pumpkin seeds too!  What’s the real deal when it comes to pumpkin? Check out some of my favorites here, and new favorite Birch Benders Pumpkin Spice Pancake and Waffle Mix.  Add pureed pumpkin to your waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, and yogurt for extra fiber and vitamin A!
